RefMap at the 27th ATRS World Conference 2024

During the first days of July, FutureNeeds and Iscte, took part in the ATRS conference for the first time, with the presentation of a paper entitled "Characteristics of a Digital Tool for Sustainable Aviation". The abstract was presented by Iscte, in Lisbon during the conference and allowed attendees to learn about our work in the RefMap project.

RefMap aims to create new, sustainable aviation business models, that will be enabled by the tools developed in the project. ISCTE and FN have been gathering feedback on the utility of these tools by conducting interviews in the last three months. We collected insights from experts in the aviation sector, including large firms (e.g. Aircraft) and small (eg. eVTOL) aviation. As a result, we will select the tools with the highest value and identify users' priorities, future aviation scenarios and additional applications of the RefMap model.

The twenty-seventh edition of this conference was attended by 405 participants from 38 countries/regions! RefMap falls precisely within two of the most discussed themes Sustainability in Air transport and Airport Strategy & Management. We are very grateful for the valuable comments and the interest in our work was expressed by experts during the interviews. This was also reflected in the audience during our presentation! It was an intense five days of presentations, seminars, networking and technical visits.

This conference was hosted by ISEC, Instituto Superior Técnico and Universidade da Beira Interior, which helped organise the event. On the last day, we attended a technical visit to TAP Airlines, a Portuguese airline, which turned out to be a unique experience. We got to know all the operations in detail and in a more technical way, which helped in sharing the synergies generated between all parties.

It was an excellent opportunity to showcase our work and discover more about other studies held in the sustainable aviation sector. All inputs gathered from ATRS were useful, which made our attendance a success!
