RefMap in QuietDrones 2024 Symposium

The RefMap project results were presented at the QuietDrones conference in Manchester, UK, this week!

The team from the University of Salford and Delft University of Technology presented their work to the audience, with attendees from around the world. The conference was organized by Antonio Torija Martinez, the leader of Work Package 4 on the RefMap project.

Michael Lotinga and Marc Green presented their research on the psychoacoustic perception and emotional responses to drone noise. They conducted laboratory-based tests and field studies involving live drone flights. Their work made significant contributions to sessions discussing human response to drone noise, community impacts, and engagement, sparking a lot of interest and discussion.

The team from the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering of TU Delft were Camilo Ignacio Andino Cappagli and Prof. Mirjam Snellen. Camilo presented their work, done in collaboration with Prof. Mirjam Snellen and Prof. Alireza Amiri-Simkooei, on drone noise modelling based on real, outdoor UAV operations tests.

The work summarized the findings from the experimental campaigns conducted in the context of RefMap, analyzed and characterized the experimental data, and presented the results from the initial noise modeling approaches. This was an important contribution to the topics of empirical noise modeling and annoyance and generated a great deal of interest among the public.
